1 The object of the Economy Watchers Survey is to survey approximately 2,000 people who are employed in industries that are able to observe any phenomena that are sensitive in reflecting regional economic trends and examines the current state and future of the economy. The responses are on a five-point scale: "Better," "Slightly better," "Unchanged," "Slightly Worse" and "Worse." Each of these responses is assigned the following points, respectively: 1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25, and 0. The Diffusion Index (DI) is calculated by multiplying the points by the component ratio of each response category. Therefore, if the DI is over 50, this indicates that the number of people who think the economy is getting better exceeds the number of people who think the economy is getting worse.
