Director General for Economic Research analyzes the current economy and fiscal status in Japan comprehensively in order to contribute to solving any problems in the Japanese economy and presents the analyses at the cabinet meeting once a year.
Former Economic Planning Agency had reported annual economic reports(" Economic White Paper ")since 1947 and that series was renewed in 2001 as " Annual Report on the Japanese Economy and Public Finance " at the central government reform and the birth of Cabinet Office, expanding its role along with that of the new ministry.
