(90) Before the category 3 insured person system was introduced in 1985, it was optional for full-time homemakers, or wives of salaried workers, to join the national pension plan. Therefore, the housewives who chose not to join the national pension plan did not have a pension to her name. When such housewives divorced at an old age, they were not able to receive pension.
