(118) Compared with "original drugs" whose effectiveness and safety are confirmed and approved after clinical tests (so-called therapeutical trial), "generic drugs" that are marketed after the expiration of the original drugs' patents are sold cheaper, as they are approved without clinical tests on the grounds that their contents and specifications are the same as those of the original drugs and thus require less development costs.
