Survey on Satisfaction and Quality of Life

The Survey on Satisfaction and Quality of Life is designed to provide a comprehensive picture of the structure of Japan’s economy and society from the perspective of people’s satisfaction and well-being, with the intent to serve as a reference for policy management. This survey measures life satisfaction — a subjective indicator where respondents rate their satisfaction on a scale of 0 to 10 points — along with related factors such as work and family circumstances and living conditions.

The Well-being Dashboard, the set of indicators on satisfaction and quality of life, presents an overview of various aspects of people’s lives based on statistical data.

Application for individual data acquisition (Survey on Satisfaction and Quality of life)

Individual-level data from the Survey on Life Satisfaction and Quality of Life are available upon request. All personal information is fully anonymized prior to release. Those who wish to obtain access to the data are requested to submit an application through the form provided below.

In addition, individual-level data from the 2019–2024 surveys (approximately 50,000 samples), which may be used for statistical analysis and other academic research purposes, have been deposited with the Social Science Japan Data Archive (SSJDA) at the Center for Social Research and Data Archives(CSRDA), Institute of Social Science, the University of Tokyo.
